River and Fishing Information
River Flows - Wading Levels and Bridge Issues
Rivers are difficult to wade-fish due to high water at the
following flows:
-
Taylor River at Almont: > 600 cfs (cubic
feet per second)
-
East River at Almont: > 450-500 cfs
-
Gunnison River (Almont
to Gunnison/North Bridge): > 1,300 cfs
Due to low
bridges, floating the rivers is not recommended during high flows
as follows:
Taylor River below Harmel's Resort - Paddle boats
cannot safely pass under the bridge below Harmel's when the Taylor
River flow at Almont is 850 cfs or more.
Gunnison River - When the Gunnison River flow exceeds 2,600 cfs at Almont, rafts
with oar frames cannot pass under the bridge located between
Almont and County Road 10 (Costello's Bridge). Some rafts with fishing frames may
not be able to safely pass under the bridge at flows greater than
2,200 cfs. Passing under Twin Bridges can also be an issue at
these flows.

Big flows are fun for rafting but less than ideal for fishing!
